So how did “Ravenous” survive this tumult to become such a delectable stop-of-the-century treat? But if someone else is responsible for building “Mima’s Room,” how does the site’s weblog manage to know more about Mima’s thoughts and anxieties than she does herself? Transformatively tailored from a pulpy novel that experienced much less on its mind, “Perfect Blue” tells a DePalma-like story of violent obsession porngames that soon accelerates into the stuff of the full-on psychic collapse (or two).

There are so many sequences of staggering filmmaking achievement — the opening eighteen-wheeler heist, Pacino realizing they’ve been made, De Niro’s glass seaside home and his first evening with Amy Brenneman, the shootout downtown, the climatic mano-a-mano shootout — that it’s hard to believe it’s all while in the same film.
